When we left Seattle, it was what you could call a “typical” Seattle day: gloomy skies, thunderstorms, and rain. I was exhausted, as I had gotten little sleep the night before doing some last minute packing. Today was also our last day of school. So Kevin was probably in the same boat. Jessy brought a cake with her, as she is turning 17 on route to Uganda. The plan is to consume it on the airplane...
Leaving friends and family was probably one of the hardest parts of the trip. But, the separation gave all of us a time to grow as individuals as well as a group. The last good-byes were short but sweet, which made it all the more better when we got to hear from them again.
My parents seemed torn between keeping me home under their watchful eyes, or letting me travel to a country halfway around the world without them. I knew I would miss them, but Uganda was calling.

Snack time for our group!

When we found the correct terminal at SeaTac Airport, we huddled in a corner and passed around the Chex Mix until our plane was ready. At around this point Alix was faced with not actually having a seat assignment! Oh, dear. However, British Airways eventually gave her a seat in business class! Lucky. :-)
