You know that song at the beginning of the Lion King when the sun is rising and all the animals are running all over the place? I felt compelled to sing that upon seeing this picture.

Wow...that is just gorgeous. And this happens nearly every day here.
We got up early in the morning again today (no sleeping in for us!) to go on safari in our van. The first animal we saw was a hyena, but it was too dark to really get a good picture of it. But by the time we got to these dueling antelope things started to get a bit brighter.
And yet more elephants—they really seem to be loving us on this trip. Apparently last year's group didn't see any elephants. Hmm.

Also, I have to say that seeing these guys (as well as the other animals) in their natural habitat was so thrilling. It's nothing at all like going to the zoo, especially since there is no fence between us and them.
We stopped for a moment to stretch our legs and finally get out of the oh-don't-bother-me-I-just-woke-up-and-didn't-have-my-coffee-yet mode. ;-)

The lake you see in the background is actually a dead lake, I believe, as its salt concentration is very high.
A few pf is are awake, I think. Hmm.

Well, at this point I decided that I must make my exit from the van and hop into Hon. Nsambu's car with Fredrik, Corinne, Kevin, and Katrina.
While we were driving down the road we suddenly spotted a herd of gazelle, and we stopped to take some close up pictures of them. I absolutely love this picture—if you remember, the gazelle is my favorite safari animal next to the cheetah.
Then we spotted a rare sight in Uganda: Ugandan cranes, which are the national bird. John told us he hasn't seen these beauties in several years. Wow.
Eventually we decide that we better catch with the rest of the team and head back to the lodge. But along the way John and Fredrik spot a monkey! Cool. That's the only monkey we've seen so far on this trip. :D
And here's Katrina modeling Hon. John Nsambu's parliamentary sport coat. We need to convice John to get us sport jackets too. Hehe. Or maybe "Uganda Parliament Fans"?

Okay, I'm digressing again.
After lunch we head to the pool for a relaxing swim. Might I add...look at that view. It was certainly a beautiful day.
In the evening we had our congratulatory dinner for a job well done.

Also invited to the dinner (or rather self-invited): Bats! One actually swooped down and brushed Jamie's ear. They're not dangerous bats, just harmless little critters.

However, I was a tad, um, jumpy of flying mice following us everywhere.
